Liechtenstein at the EXPO 2010 world fair in Shanghai 31.07.2010

Vaduz, 30 July 2010 - After three months at the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, the Government and the organizers are pleased with the success so far. 400 media reports in China have portrayed the Principality of Liechtenstein as an innovative business location, interesting travel destination, and beautiful postage stamp country in the heart of Europe. The Liechtenstein Pavilion in Shanghai is an attractive "oasis of calm" in the hustle and bustle of the EXPO.

The multifaceted events at the EXPO pavilion in Vaduz invigorate the Städtle and attract many visitors. The preparations for Liechtenstein Day on 1 September, the highlight of Liechtenstein's participation in Shanghai, are progressing at full speed.

After three months of Liechtenstein's participation at the EXPO, the halftime of the six-month world fair has been reached. The Government and the organizers are very pleased with the success so far.

Major advertising impact in China Nearly 400 media reports, including 20 video clips and TV reports, with an advertising value of CHF 600,000 are the first results of Liechtenstein's successful participation at the EXPO 2010 world fair in Shanghai. Even in remote areas of China, Liechtenstein is being presented positively in the media and as a postage stamp country, travel destination, and a place where a high-tech economy and beautiful landscape can coexist.

The visit of Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick in Beijing in mid-May alone generated 50 reports and strengthened the perception of Liechtenstein as an innovative country, an active member of the international community, and a vibrant cultural center in the heart of Europe.

The Liechtenstein Pavilion is perceived as an attractive "oasis of calm", and media reports are very positive. "In the first three months, we have achieved our goal of broadly disseminating coverage of Liechtenstein in China," Prime Minister Klaus Tschütscher said. "Liechtenstein companies are happy to use the pavilion to present themselves to their clients and to acquaint their employees in China with Liechtenstein. The Liechtenstein Pavilion is a little piece of home in faraway China."

High level of public interest

With an average of 6,000 visitors counted each day, more than half a million people have visited the Liechtenstein Pavilion in Shanghai in the first three months. "This exceeds all our expectations," Pavilion Director Pio Schurti confirms.

Special presentation of Liechtenstein at the EXPO 2010

With its presentation in three pavilions - Shanghai, Vaduz, and on the Internet at www.expo2010.li - the Principality shows how a small state deals with global challenges such as increasing urban sprawl. The built-up areas in the Rhine Valley in Liechtenstein are part of an extended regional living and working zone together with the neighboring areas of Austria and Switzerland. Liechtenstein's presentation shows that respect for the natural surroundings and for neighbors are a precondition for a successful improvement of the shared, cross-border living environment.

The three pavilions serve as platforms and display windows for Liechtenstein to present itself to the world. They also offer opportunities for encounter between Liechtenstein and the world and have been put to enthusiastic use.

With its presentation in Shanghai and Vaduz, Liechtenstein emphasizes the need for "Dialogue and Respect". Small conversation partners in particular rely on respect from their counterparts to be truly heard in dialogue. The pavilion in Vaduz also is dedicated to the subtheme of "Respect and Dialogue".

In collaboration with the Institute for Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein, the third "pavilion" - an Internet information platform at www.expo2010.li - serves as an online laboratory where students, architects and planners develop solutions relating to the EXPO theme of "Better City, Better Life". The results and progress of these processes are updated and presented on the website.

Liechtenstein Day on 1 September

The EXPO in Shanghai will celebrate Liechtenstein Day on 1 September. H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois and Prime Minister Klaus Tschütscher will attend the event as the official representatives of the Principality of Liechtenstein, accompanied by a business delegation. A highlight of Liechtenstein Day will be the joint appearance of an orchestra consisting of members of the Symphony Orchestra Liechtenstein and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, which will perform works by Liechtenstein and Chinese composers.
